FROM THE PRESIDENT 2024

Bula Vinaka and welcome to the Fiji Psychological Society.

It is an honour to serve as President of this dynamic and growing professional community. Since its establishment in 2019, the Fiji Psychological Society has been dedicated to supporting the vital work of Psychologists in Fiji and the wider Pacific region. Through fostering collaboration, enhancing professional development, and advocating for psychological well-being, the Society plays a key role in advancing the field of psychology in our part of the world.

Our members work in a rapidly changing environment where development—
economic, social, and political—continues to reshape our communities. These changes bring both opportunities and challenges, impacting the mental health and resilience of individuals and families. Psychologists are uniquely positioned to provide the tools, insights, and interventions to navigate these complexities, whether through direct support or by informing policies that shape our future.

Over the past year, we’ve made significant strides in strengthening the Society’s foundation and expanding its impact. Key initiatives, such as our Continuing Professional Development programmes, training and internship opportunities,
working with our academic institutions to strengthen our programmes equipping psychologists with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive. We’ve also enhanced networking opportunities, hosted our inaugural Summit, and developed resources to better serve our members and the broader community.

For those considering joining, membership in the Fiji Psychological Society is much more than a credential—it’s a connection to a supportive and inspiring network of professionals. Members benefit from opportunities to learn, share, and grow while contributing to the collective voice of psychology in Fiji. Together, we advocate for high professional standards, provide mutual support, and drive innovation in addressing the unique mental health needs of our region.

As we look ahead, I am excited about the opportunities that lie before us. The Society is committed to continuing its growth, advancing psychology’s role in fostering well-being, and ensuring we remain responsive to the needs of our members and the communities we serve.

Thank you for visiting our website. Whether you are a Psychologist, a student, or someone interested in learning more about the work we do, I encourage you to explore, engage, and join us in shaping a brighter future for psychology and
mental health in Fiji and the Pacific.

Malo vaka levu,
PRESIDENT
